Overview

Tulcan is a powerful Temtem with considerable offensive and defensive merits. Tornado and Fiery Soul provide fantastic priority options, while Wind Burst allows Tulcan to output consistent damage and maintain a strong board presence due to the move's low stamina cost. Tulcan's typing leaves it with four resists and only two weaknesses, meaning it’s a strong slot in many situations.  Tulcan has two good Traits; Heater burns the opposing team for one turn, allowing Tulcan to temporarily mitigate incoming damage once per battle, while Pyromaniac powers up its two Fire moves. Tulcan is a great fit for teams in need of coverage for Natures, Crystals, and Toxics.

Description

This is a basic spread for Heater Tulcan, which is more focused on Wind damage compared to Pyromaniac. Heater offers fantastic utility in neutering high-damage leads and turns, which can often swing the outcome in your favor. Wind Burst provides consistent damage, while Tornado is a priority nuke. Fiery Soul and Fire Tornado round out Tulcan's coverage, allowing it to comfortably beat many Crystals and Natures. Tulcan's excellent typing enables Marbles well, as it forces many Temtem out.

The speed investment given allows you to outspeed max speed Chimurian and Tutsu with priority and is comfortably above base speed Mushook for Wind Burst. The stamina allows for a common Wind Burst, Tornado, and Fiery Soul rotation. Special attack is maximized for raw damage output, and the remaining points are put in health to improve overall bulk.

Alternative options (Heater):

Bait is also a fantastic item for Tulcan as it can switch into Toxics easier and have more staying power due to Vigorized. Hand Fan is also great for additional damage output, but is generally outperformed by Marbles. 308 SPD TVs can be considered to outspeed all Amphatyrs with Fiery Soul before they can Thunderstrike you. However, it's important to keep in mind that lowering health can lead to a large decrease in bulk, and you might find yourself dying to double-ins significantly more often. Dropping a small amount of SPATK (<100 TVs) can sometimes be worth it to live a little longer if you find yourself dying often.

Description

(1.3 DUKE'S NOTES - HEATER IS STILL BROKEN, THIS THING IS STILL KING)

Tulcan is an incredibly powerful tem that fits onto a wide variety of lineups due to its bonkers trait, Heater, that applies Burn to its opponents upon it entering the battlefield, Fiery Soul, that reapplies Burn at speed, Tornado and Fire Tornado, that offer amazing damage, Wind Burst, that offers remarkable efficiency, an insane defensive and offensive typing in fire/wind, and a balanced stat pool with respectible physical bulk.

Tulcan can do it all - protect its allies, chase out its enemies, lead into tems it's normally weak to, take hits for key win conditions on your team, and more. It's flexible - Bait is a great gear to enable it to play into toxics and other status threats, Sweatband lets it continue to hammer the opposition with efficient attacks, Hand Fan or Fire Chip can help your team address specific types that Tulcan hits, Reactive Vial, Mom's Lunch or Marbles can make it an even better lead, and Refreshing Diabolo even works as a surprise option if you don't think Tulcan will be targeted.

Amphatyr is listed as a partner due to its great defensive synergy with Amph, but other than that, Tulcan can go next to nearly every tem in the game. If you're not currently running Tulcan in 0.9.4, you'd best have a very good reason not to.
